2025 Missoula Children’s Theatre Camp
Only at The REES!
General Timeline
Audition Process
All children within the designated age range are welcome to participate in an open audition. There is no cap on the number of children who may audition, and every participant has an equal opportunity to be cast. This approach not only reflects a more realistic theatrical experience, but also allows the Missoula Children’s Theatre (MCT) Tour Actor/Directors (TADs) to select the best fit for each role based on the unique talents and qualities each child brings to the audition.
The open audition will be led by the two TADs, who will cast approximately 50–60 students in the production. If more than 60 children audition, not all will be cast. Final casting decisions are made solely by the TADs and will be announced at the conclusion of the audition session.
While not every child may receive a role, the TADs work hard to ensure the process is supportive and that all participants leave feeling valued and encouraged. Please note that, due to space limitations at The REES, participation in the camp will be capped at 60 students.
What ages should audition?
All MCT Tour shows are designed for students entering 1st grade through 12th grade in the summer and Kindergarten through 12th grade during the school-year. This is the optimum age range for our productions. There are roles especially suited for all ages, skill levels and experience levels.
Should the students prepare anything for the audition?
No advance preparation is necessary, but a smile never hurts at an audition. They should be ready to come and have a good time! Please remember that everyone must stay the entire two hours of the audition.
Auditions will be held Monday, June 23rd from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Doors will open at 9:30 am
how much is the camp if my child is selected through the audition process?
If your child is selected through the audition process, the participation fee is $150 per student. This covers all instruction, rehearsal materials, and participation in the final performances.
Participants will also need to bring a lunch each day.
Rehearsals
This year’s Missoula Children’s Theatre camp at The REES is as follows:
Rehearsals will take place Monday through Thursday, with two sessions each day:
Morning Session: 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Snack/Lunch Break: 12:00 PM – 12:15 PM
Children are responsible to bring their own sack lunch.
Afternoon Session: 12:15 PM – 2:15 PM
The first day (Monday) will begin with auditions during the morning session, followed by the first rehearsal in the afternoon session.
On Friday, a dress rehearsal will be held during the first three hours, followed by a short break. Older cast members may be asked to stay for an additional 1-hour session afterward.
Please note: Not all students will be required at every rehearsal. A detailed schedule outlining which students are needed for which rehearsals will be provided by the Missoula Children’s Theatre Tour Actor/Directors after the audition.
We encourage families to keep their schedules open during these times for the entire week to ensure full participation if cast.
Can guardians and teachers watch rehearsals?
All rehearsals are open to guardians and teachers. Be aware, however, that it may be fun for the students to surprise their friends and family at the end of the week by showing what they have accomplished! Please understand that we cannot allow guests to disrupt the rehearsals. Productive rehearsals depend on the focused work of the cast members involved.
Who can watch the dress rehearsal?
We ask that no one watch the dress rehearsal other than a hand-full of parents and/or the presenter. The dress rehearsal is typically scheduled on the Friday of the week, the first three hours of rehearsal. This includes enough time for the cast to get into costume and run the show with starts and stops as needed. Please note, this is not a performance. The dress rehearsal is the first time the cast has the opportunity to get accustomed to their costumes and props. Because of this we do not allow an audience to watch the dress rehearsal.
Performance Details
There will be two public performances of the Missoula Children’s Theatre production. General admission is $10 per person for all attendees.
